Mariann Louise Stanek Tecklenburg Kerkman passed away peacefully Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Meadow View Assisted Living, Cedar Rapids. A celebration of her life will be held at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, IA, on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Keystone Cemetery, Keystone, IA.

Mariann was born December 8, 1928 on a farm south of Chelsea, IA, to Sylvia and Edward Stanek. Mariann Louise was named after her grandmothers and Aunt Louise, one of her 19 aunts and uncles. With her sister, Lela, she grew up a farm girl, graduating from Belle Plaine High class of 1946. She married Lloyd Tecklenburg June 30, 1948, and they farmed together north of Keystone until Lloyd’s passing in 1969.

In 1978, Mariann married Ralph Kerkman and the couple farmed east of Van Horne until retiring to Vinton in 2000. Both of her husbands preceded her in death.

Mariann and Lloyd raised four children: Robert (Rebecca Richey), Springfield, VA; Gary (Linda Bevins), Trinidad, CO; Jean Kureri (Mike), Green Valley, AZ; and Kristine Scheer (Dennis), South Amana, IA. Mariann’s three stepdaughters are Kay Tierney (Eamon deceased), Ames, IA; Kyle Miller (Steve), Houston, TX; and Keely McAfee (Gary), Cedar Rapids, IA.

Mariann has eight grandchildren: Nicole Tecklenburg Zanon, Clearwater, FL; Brandon Scheer (Kate), Middle Amana, IA; Ben Scheer (Kristina), Dallas, TX; Tyler Scheer (Alexandria), Kalamazoo, MI; Ethan Scheer (Amanda) Cloquet, MN; Casey Jones. Boone, IA; Brian McAfee (Kelli) Marion, IA; Jeremy McAfee, Cedar Rapids, IA.

Great-grandchildren include: Giorgia, Sawyer, Liv, Miles, Vera, Addison and Olivia.

Dancing was always high on Mariann’s list of fun activities. She could be easily found with Lloyd or Ralph doing waltzes or polkas around Benton County or wherever the music played. She loved spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When not out on the farm or in their condo, Mariann and Ralph traveled, visiting their children and grandchildren. A high point of her travels were trips to Europe and Alaska.

Mariann is preceded in death by her parents, Sylvia and Edward, husbands, Lloyd and Ralph, and sister, Lela Kalina Pelisek.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Meadow View Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care of our mother. All memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice. Online condolences can be sent to www.neuhausfuneralservice.com.
