Margie Ann Wirtz, 80, of Independence, Iowa passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, at the ABCM Rehabilitation Center in Independence, Iowa.

Margie was born on March 25, 1944, to Ed and Maxine Ryan and raised in the Dundee area. She attended Dundee School until it closed in 1959 and attended one year in Manchester before graduating with the Lamont class of 1961. In 1971 she completed the LPN program at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo and in 1972 she began her 40+ year nursing career at People’s Memorial Hospital in Independence. She also worked eight years at West Village Care Center (now ABCM Rehabilitation Center) and returned to PMH Long Term Care and BCHC as a staff nurse before her “first” retirement in 2009. She returned to work in the BCHC Outreach Clinic for several years.

She is survived by her daughter: Ann (Troy) Bolton, Independence, IA, her sons, Bret (Stephanie) Wirtz of Maynard, and Tracy Wirtz of Maynard, IA, eight grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Wirtz in 2006, her parents Ed and Maxine Ryan, and one brother, Bill Ryan in 2002.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Reiff Family Center in Independence, IA. Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Independence, IA. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 4 PM until 7 PM and Friday, May 3, 2024, from 8 AM to service at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, IA. A Wake Service will be held at 7 PM at the funeral home on Thursday.
