Margaret Ann Anderson, 87, of Marion, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

A funeral service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Celebrant Randy Walton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her sons, Zaid (Regina) Frangul of Chandler, AZ, Wes (Donna) Frangul of Geneva, IL, Ramsey Frangul of Lowden, IA, Montgomery Martens of Florissant, MO, 7 grandchildren, Lucas, Julia, William, Ryan, Rachel, Cody and T.J., and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Judith Standart.

Margaret Ann Buttre was born August 24, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of William and Margaret (Findlay) Buttre. After living in California and a short time in Iraq, Maggie returned to Iowa with her children and eventually resettled in Illinois. She earned her associate’s degree in addictions counseling, a bachelor’s in sociology and a master’s in marital and family therapy and spent many years working at Catholic Charities in Wheaton, IL before retiring back to Iowa to focus on her passions of astrology, politics, gardening and music. She was a syndicated columnist under the name of AstroMaggi and provided daily content on astrology for AOL and the New York Times, and had also been quoted in the Wall Street Journal. Maggie was an active supporter of progressive causes, Seed Savers Exchange and Prairie Woods Spirituality Center. She loved animals and never turned down accepting another’s unwanted pet. Maggie was also welcoming to friends and family, providing a warm meal or a place to stay when needed.

She will be greatly missed.
