Mamie Ruth Larkins
- July 14, 2022
Mamie Ruth Larkins was born July 8, 1941, in Honea Path, South Carolina. She was the second oldest of four daughters born to the late Ernest and Mamie Pratt.
Mamie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In 1959, she graduated from John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio, where she obtained her diploma and manicurist license upon graduation.
Shortly after graduation she married Curtis Larkins, and from this union two children were born.
Mamie was employed at Ford Motor Company for most of her career and retired after 30 years of service as one of the first African American women to complete the Skills Trade Program as a certified Electrician from the Walton Hills Stamping Plant.
During Mamie’s younger years, she enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, shopping, and decorating. After retirement, she enjoyed her family time, dining out, gardening, and playing Candy Crush.
Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her priority was always making certain that her family was taken care of.
Our dearly beloved Mamie departed this life on Monday, July 11, 2022. She leaves to cherish her memory two children; Tanya and Deborah; three grandchildren, Shanelle, Brittney, and Dwan; three great-grandchildren, Eric, Jordan, and Ka’Miyah; three sisters, Eleonore, Dy Gloria, Regina (Carlton); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family, and friends.
