Lynn S. Schulte, 77, of Prole, IA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 11 after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on July 27 at the Iles Norwalk Chapel, 1020 Main Street, Norwalk, IA 50211. A private burial will take place in Norway, IA.

Lynn was born the oldest of 8 on July 26, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, IA to Celestine “Dolly” and Sylvester “Alec” Schulte. He grew up in rural Norway, IA. He graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids, IA in 1964. After graduation he honorably served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era. Lynn was a long-time member of Hahn Howard Post 480 of the American Legion.

After completing his military service, Lynn returned home to Iowa to start his farming career. In 1969 he met the love of his life, Marilyn Demuth. They were married on July 25, 1970 in Jesup, IA and they established a farm near Van Horne. In 1977, they moved their farming operation to a location outside of Mount Vernon, IA. Lynn and Marilyn went on to raise four children in Mount Vernon.

Lynn was a devout Christian and a dedicated and loving husband and father. He was also faithful in his politics and proudly served a term in the Iowa House of Representatives. Lynn never missed an opportunity to spend time with his large family and play cards. He had a great rolling laugh and found humor wherever he could. Even in his final days, his sense of humor was on point.

Lynn is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn, and his children, Jennifer Schulte of Greenfield, WI, Lance Schulte of Prole, IA, Leah (Jason) Meyer of Parker, CO and Erin (Matt) Edlhuber of Brookfield, WI. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hunter, Dominic, Roman and Kastor Meyer, Grace and Everett Edlhuber; siblings Lana, Loras, Joe, Tracey and Mary; and a number of sisters-and-brothers-in law and nieces and nephews.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Dolly and Alec; siblings Leah and Jude; parents-in-law Cleone and Paul; and several sisters and brothers-in-law.

Special thanks to Stacie and the team from EveryStep Hospice who took such loving care of Dad and the family during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed towards any local pro-life organization, an important cause for Lynn.
