Lu was preceded in death by the love of her life Terry Canning and her son William Canning.

Lu was born Jan 8, 1940, in Fargo, North Dakota, the daughter of George P Barrett and Lenore

(Christensen) Barrett. In 1957 she graduated from Shanley High School and married Terry in April 1958.

Lu was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest was ten years old and then she delved back into the workplace – first in retail, then in insurance. Eventually she attained her Commercial Underwriting certification and started working in the newly established re-insurance division of United Fire & Casualty, learning many new things, and having a chance to travel to across the U.S. and Europe to work with clients.

Lu and Terry loved to travel and went on many adventures both domestically and abroad. They often did Road Scholar trips to enhance the experience with local learning. They traveled to China, Spain, Ireland, and more. When Terry passed, Lu continued to travel and headed to places like Malta, Greece, Australia, and New Zealand. She also enjoyed two six-week language immersion experiences in Florence and Verona, Italy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Linn Haven Inc or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa.
