Lorraine A. Zeller

Lorraine A. Zeller, age 90, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully, late Wednesday, October 6, 2021, in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born in Buffalo, New York on January 9, 1931, Lorraine was one of five children born to the late Cletus and Anna Crowley Fox.

Lorraine attended The Sacred Heart Academy in Buffalo and received her RN at Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing. While at nursing school, she met the love of her life, Dr. James F. Zeller, who was attending medical school at the time. The couple married on June 14, 1952, and lived in Niagara Falls, New York, Youngstown, and Akron prior to relocating to the Tuscarawas Valley in 1957 where they would raise their family. In her early years, Lorraine, a devoted wife and mother, balanced work life as a nurse for her husband, Jim as his practice grew and also maintained her home and family duties.

A longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia, Lorraine was involved with the Tuscarawas County Tourist Club, Junior Clionian Society, The Twig 2, now known as the Union Hospital Auxiliary, and various Union Country Club Social Committees. Lorraine enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, traveling and vacationing in Sandestin, Florida. She also loved crafting, and painting with watercolors. Many friends and every family member have been blessed to have artwork by Lorraine hanging on their walls.

Lorraine was known for her big cookie and big pop party time with her grandkids. Lorraine loved organizing fun and game events at family gatherings in which there were always great prizes; and always ensured everyone got something. Her favorite sayings were, “Cool it with the boom booms”, “That’s my name not my number”, and when it was time to leave, she would always say, “Jim, we need to go home now and watch ‘Murder She Wrote’.”

Surviving are her sons, William (Nancy) Zeller of Tucson Arizona, and David (Cathy) Zeller of New Philadelphia; her sister, Eleanor Fox of Columbus, Ohio, five grandchildren, Andy Zeller (Jennifer) of San Marcos, California, Sarah (Kevin) Koshko of Scottsdale, Arizona, Chrissy (Sam) Henry of Midland Texas, Katie (Jeff) Dietrich of Apex, North Carolina and Kimberly (Mandy) Zeller of Cary, North Carolina and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years, Dr. James Zeller, M.D.; her siblings, Rita Scherer, Sister Paula Fox, OSF, and Dr. Edward Fox, M.D.

In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. A private service will take place at a later date with inurnment to follow alongside her husband in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling arrangements.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Park Village in Dover for the care and compassion they provided to both Jim and Lorraine during their stay.

Instead of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 139 3rd Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
