Lorna Lord-Nader

Foley, AL

Lorna Lord-Nader, resident of Foley AL, passed away on May 8th, 2024 at the age of 87. Born on July 14, 1936 in Columbus Junction, IA to the late William and Hazel (Garrett) Lord, she later moved to Winthrop Harbor where she graduated from Zion-Benton (IL) High School in 1954. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Lord.

While raising a family in Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie, she returned to school and received a Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Kenosha Technical Institute in 1972. She later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with a Public Health certification (BSN,PHN) from Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI in 1981.

Shortly after finally marrying the right guy, Clarence “Jim” Nader, on June 22, 1985, they moved to Three Lakes, WI and took ownership of Rustlewood Resort. In Three Lakes, she continued her vocation as a public health nurse and was on the Board of Directors for the Three Lakes Information Bureau. They sold the resort in 1995 and returned to Kenosha. Three years later, they became snow-birds and eventually settled in Foley, AL. Lorna and Jim ran and participated in many events for the local Wisconsin Snobird Club.

Lorna was always up for an adventure whether it was introducing her children to exotic foods like frog’s legs, squid, escargot and tacos (yes, tacos were exotic in 1960’s Wisconsin); or traveling to remote villages in Alaska, Arizona and Minnesota to spend summers as a U.S. Public Health Service nurse.

Her children remember the times she spent an afternoon crouched behind a bush as she took them (as they were just-barely old enough) bow hunting for deer; finding photogenic ways to fall off of bicycles, motorcycles and personal watercraft; helping a family pet give birth for the first time; and cross-country road trips where she managed to stay mostly sane while dealing with 3 or 4 unruly children in the back seats.

Her lesson to her children was to explore the dickens out of whatever life offers up.

Lorna is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jim; sons Thomas (Nancy) Nighsonger, Dwight (Liz) Irving and Scott (Marianne) Irving; step-children Stephen (Connie) Irving, David Irving, Cathy (Dan Brown) Gill, Dennis (Toni) Nader, Susan Nelson, Lori (Paul) Peterson, Kevin Nader and Donna (Chuck) Tess; and nephews Robert Lord and Bradley Lord. She had 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Arthritis Foundation.
