Lewis E. Young

Lewis E. Young, 93, of Mansfield, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Monday morning, February 7, 2022, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio.
Lewis was born November 18, 1928, in Sycamore, Ohio, the youngest of four, to the late Aaron Jacob and Myrtle Mae (Tschanen) Young. He graduated from Holmes Liberty High School and attended Findlay University before entering the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In December of 1953, he returned home to marry Dorothy Click and they returned to the base near Atlanta, Georgia. After his military service, they returned to the Mansfield area raising their six children in the Ontario School District, where he was a Boy Scout leader, baseball coach, and supported them in competitive figure skating. Lewis worked part time as floor guard at the Coliseum skating rink, and retired after over 30 years of employment at the GM plant in Ontario. After retirement, he and Dorothy moved to Edgewater, Florida, living the senior life till her passing in 1997. He joined a seniors group and took many pictures of their Caribbean cruises and bus travels all across the U.S, and Hawaii.
Lewis was an active member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches he attended through his life. He had a wonderful tenor singing voice, enjoyed singing and often lead the choir in church. In 2010, Lewis returned to Mansfield and resided at The Waterford on Trimble Road and had spent his last couple years at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
Lewis is preceded in death by wife, Dorothy; daughter, Marilyn Brown Davenport; grandson, Brian Rothrock; granddaughter, Carolyn Brown Cook; two brothers, Curtis and Luther; and a sister, Rachel Miller.
He is survived by his three sons, Randy of Portland, OR, Ken (Regana) of Mansfield, and John of Westerville, OH; two daughters, Wanda (John) Rothrock of Thornton, CO, and Peggy Young (James Cole) of Mansfield; his grandchildren; David Brown and Stacy (Carl) Trimble of Findlay, OH, Bethany Mooney, Amanda Rothrock, Tonya (Chris) Myers and Amber McKee; his great-grandchildren, Michael and Zachary Cook, Brianna, Maverick, Brennan, Kevin, Michael, Alexandria, Richard, Kayleen and Catalina; and many other family members, church family and friends who will sadly miss him.
The family will welcome friends from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Dale Patrick will begin at 3:30 p.m. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will present military honors at the funeral home. Lewis will be laid to rest in Franklin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Mansfield Alliance Church, 291 W. Cook Road, Mansfield, OH 44907.
