Laura Thornhill

     Laura Thornhill was sassy, creative, and loved a good pun or joke that made others groan.  She loved her family, co-workers, friends, and feline companions.  Her twin sister Lynna was her best friend, favorite foe, and lifelong adventure partner. The two wrote early tunes with absurd lyrics like, “I love you so much I could puke.  Why don’t we go somewhere like Dubuque.” Their laughter at their own creative silliness soon spread to those around them. Thursday, July 15, Laura left this world peacefully after fighting a tiring health battle.

     Laura earned her certificate in radio broadcasting.  She worked various jobs in personal health companionship, dry cleaning, and building maintenance.  She was a Facilities Maintenance Worker with the City of Springfield since 2001. Laura loved true detective shows, old Disney movies, and searching for the supernatural.  Her favorite exercise was dancing, and her favorite videos featured cats – especially black cats.  Laura’s heart was evident through her generosity – whether a bag of cat food for a Facebook friend or singing at Springfield’s Girlathon concerts to raise money to fight breast cancer.

     Born in Ohio, Laura was preceded in death by her father Lawrence and step-father Todd Weatherhead.  She is loved and survived by her mother Sally Weatherhead and her five sisters Anita (Richard) Esposito, Tina (Nikki Baker) Thornhill, Karen (Ron) Deyo, Lynna Thornhill, and Lorraine (Jake) Banker and her cherished step-sister Rose (Fred) Ray.  She is also loved and remembered by beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and favorite nieces and nephews.

     Memorial Gathering: 4 – 6 pm, Friday, July 23, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield for friends and family to celebrate the sass and passion of Laura.

A memorial service and burial will be held in Ohio in early fall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Forever Home Feline Ranch or American Diabetes Association are encouraged.

In a book she was penning, Laura reminded us all, “Struggles are meant to prepare you, not scare you.”
