Larry J. Chism

Larry Joe Chism, 62, of Springfield, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on September 4, 2021. He was born on June 10, 1959 in Springfield to Russell Chism and Stella (Bradley) Chism, and they preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his brother John Chism and infant sister, Constan Marie Chism.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Weiskopf of Springfield; cousin, Mike (Deanna) Fowler of Athens and several cousins in Carlinville, and his beloved dog “Sissy”.

Larry was a graduate of Southeast High School, Class of 1977. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He served in the Marine Corps during the invasion of Beirut in August of 1982, where many United States Marines lost their lives.

Larry was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He was the co-owner of the Lincoln Trail Family Campground and retired in 2018 after, seventeen years of service from Vicki’s Bookkeeping and Tax Service. Prior to retiring, he was the past Director of the MDA and former manager of the Jr. Blues and known as the “Zamboni Man”.

He was of the Christian Faith and a member of Calvary Church. Larry was a member and past Jr Vice Commander of Springfield American Legion Post 32, an avid motorcycle rider, and member of the local HOG Chapter.

Visitation: 3 – 6 PM, Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Calvary Church, 501 W Hazel Dell Rd, Springfield.

Funeral Service: 6 PM, Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Calvary Church with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating.

Graveside Service: 11 AM, Monday, September 13, 2021 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

A Celebration of Larry’s life will follow at American Legion Post #32, 1120 Sangamon Ave, following the committal at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Church or American Legion Post #32.
