Kathryn Rebecca “Kay” Phillips passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. Born near Big Rock, IL on March 9, 1925 to Herbert J. and Kathryn “Katie” (Houtz) Phillips Sr.
She attended Big Rock, White and Bell one room country schools and Hinckley High School where she graduated in 1943. Married Willard Haish now deceased. Daughter Judy Kathryn born that union. Later married Glenn Bower, daughter Jean Sue born to that union. Kathryn graduated from Bailey’s Cosmetology School in Chicago. Owned and operated a beauty shop for 20 years in Plano, Shabbona, and Hinckley until she gave it up to care for her parents. Turned her home into an assisted living home until her parents were deceased when she retired.
Kay is survived by two lovely daughters, Judy Murphy and Jean Sue Erickson; three grandchildren, Matthew Podschweit, Verhonica Podschweit Hirst, and Diane Erickson Wesley; six great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Katie Phillips Sr.; her brothers, Herbert Phillips Jr. and Donald W. Phillips; her son-in-law, Ronnie Erickson; and her nephew, Donald Phillips Jr.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 141 N. Maple St., Hinckley, IL. Interment will follow at the Kaneville Cemetery in Kaneville, IL.
Friends may visit from 9:00 AM until the hour of service on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel in Hinckley, IL.
