Kathleen “Kathy” (Vogel) Thompson, 65, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion with burial to take place in western Iowa at a later date.

Kathy was born on June 4, 1957, to Dean and Marcelyn “Marcie” Vogel. She graduated from Linn-Mar High School and Iowa State University. Kathy was united in marriage to John E. Thompson, they later divorced. They were the proud parents of three sons, Erik, Nicholas and Andrew. Kathy’s sons continued to be the center of her life, and she was so proud of all they had achieved.

She had been employed at Toyota Financial Services for over 20 years and had planned to continue work there until their upcoming closing. Kathy was very passionate about doing her best as each day presented new challenges to her group. Kathy was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing and sharing the results with family and friends. Each of her sons inherited her joy of cooking and would often ask for her recipes. Kathy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kathy is survived and lovingly remembered by her mother, Marcie Vogel; three sons, Erik, Nick and Andrew; grandson, Noah; brother, Kevin (Lisa) Vogel; niece, Cataleya; nephews, Eric, Steve and Will Fritz; and numerous friends and relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kathy’s memory may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection at 3500 29th Ave. in Marion, IA 52302.
