Alice met her husband, Thomas G. Crawford, when she was 14 and he was 12. They became a couple when she was 17 and he was 15. They married on May 13, 1947, after Tom completed his time in the Navy. They were married for 62 years, always making each other their priority and raising three children. Throughout their marred life they built two homes in Des Moines, moved to a farm southwest of Indianola in 1967, raising cattle and, later, sheep. In 1983 they moved to Norwalk and travelled the United States in their fifth wheel, enjoying that time immensely. In 2002, they moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to their daughter.

Alice took great pride in being the best wife and mother and keeping an immaculate house. She enjoyed cooking and was truly an amazing cook, always taking great pains to set a beautiful table to present her delicious meals. She collected art glass for many years and amassed a huge collection of beautiful glassware that she enjoyed so much.

Those left to cherish Alice’s memory are her three children, Thomas K. (Cris) Crawford of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Charles D. (Darlene) Crawford of Bakersville, N.C., and Cynthia S. (Gene) Dooley of Marion, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, George (Marge) Brown of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Brown of Johnston, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Cathy Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her parents, four brothers, two sisters-in-law, two sisters, one brother-in-law, one great-grandson and one stepgrandson.
