Katherine Sims

Katherine Sims, 69, of Cleveland, Ohio, along with God decided it was time for her to “Pack up and Go Home” to rest in His arms on Thursday, January 20, 2022. She was born a fraternal twin, to her parents Lillian (Pulley) Marcus and Cleve Andrew Jordan, on January 2, 1953, in Leflore County (Greenwood), Mississippi. She attended John Adams, then went on to receive her GED in 1975 from Tri-C’s GED Program (Division of Manpower Training). She went on to study Chemical Dependency and Social Work. She achieved an Associate Degree from at Tri-C, Bachelor’s Degree from Capitol University (1997) and master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University (1999). She also worked as a Nurse’s Aide for Sunny Acres Hospital (Cleveland, Ohio). Katherine served as a Chemical Dependency Counselor, LSW for 12 years. After 12 years of service, she retired from City of Cleveland in 2011 after suffering a stroke. The theme of her Life’s work was named after her favorite song “If I Can Help Somebody”. She enjoyed: ALL THINGS AFRICAN AMERICAN (Culture/History/Ancestry/Art/Clothing), Music, Reading, Writing Poetry, Education, helping others overcome chemical dependency & all others to become the best version of themselves, in essence she was a Life Coach. She also ABSOLUTELY ADORED her Grand Children. In 1988, Katherine was honored with a The Mayor’s Award for Volunteerism for Outstanding Volunteer Service in the City Of Cleveland, and a host of other acknowledgements. Katherine met Charles Edward Sims and they were married on November 28, 1975, in Cleveland, Ohio. Together they raised 4 children: Katrina (Pulley-Sims) McKenzie (Previous Relationship), Charlton Pulley, Dexter K. Sims, Corey L. Sims. Katherine is survived by Daughter: Katrina McKenzie (Ernest); Sons: Charlton Pulley (Edwina), Dexter K. Sims (Kathryn); Corey L. Sims (Fayth). Grand Children: Sierra Moss, Khaiya Lawson, Kiara Hill, Jasmine Sims, Imani Sims, Nathan McKenzie, Erica Grace Sims, Olivia Sims. Great Grand Children: Angel Lawson, Amani Lawson, and Nia Myers all of Ohio. Siblings: Cleve Andrew Pulley (Joanne) of Minneapolis, MN, Fraternal Twin brother Yacub Saafir of Atlanta, GA, Janet Marcus of Cleveland, OH, Charles Marcus Jr (Marsha) of Cincinnati, OH, Betty Gilbert (Gregory Sr) of Cleveland, OH; Eddie Marcus of Cleveland, OH. Uncles: Lawrence Pulley, Jap Pulley (Kathryn). Aunt: W. Alberta Hammond all of Cleveland, OH, A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, family, and friends.
