“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” II Cor.5.8. Joyce (Harris) Abodeely of Marion, left her life on Friday, June 30, 2023. Services are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Mike Morgan as officiate. The burial is at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may gather at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., and at the Chapel after 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Joyce was born to Vern and Orvetta (Mulkins) Harris on June 20, 1925, in Hampton, Iowa. She met her husband, Kenneth Abodeely, at the U.S.O., and they married on Feb. 4, 1945, in Owatonna, Minn. They celebrated their 65th anniversary together in 2010. Kenneth was a Cedar Rapids hairstylist for 44 years, and Joyce pursued her musical passions by teaching hundreds of students the piano for nearly 40 years in Marion. Her greatest pleasure in life was leading recitals, choirs and music in the community and in the church.

Joyce was preceded in death by husband, Ken Abodeely; son, John Abodeely; great-granddaughter, Ainsley Abodeely; brother, Ervin (Dorothy) Harris; and parents, Vern Harris, Orvetta and stepfather, Percy Gilman.

Honoring her memory are her sons, Mark (Kay) of Rowley, John of Cedar Rapids (passed 2022), and Paul (Kris) of Lisbon; grandchildren, Christian (Kim) of Colorado Springs, Ryan (Patience) of Center Point and Jared (April) of Urbandale; Aaron of Pittsburgh and Joshua of Cedar Rapids; Maxwell, Alexandra (Dakota) and Sydney (Austin) of Lisbon; great-grandchildren, Caden and Caleb of Colorado Springs, Jewel (Jesse) and Jadyn (Maverick) of Center Point, Aiden, Jett, Jax and Avilyn of Urbandale; Sawyer and Everly of Lisbon; and great-great-granddaughters, Leilani and Liliana of Center Point.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy and to The Views of Marion for their care of Joyce.
