Josephine M. Hammond, 101, of Sherman, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at The Villas Senior Care Community. She was born November 26, 1920, in Pawnee, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Goins) Gibson. She married Daniel McAfee in 1939 and he preceded her in death. Together, they raised six children. She married John Hammond on March 20, 1971 and he preceded her in death on May 19, 1995.
She is also preceded in death by her parents and five sons, Roy, David, Richard, Gene, and Jerry McAfee.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Campbell of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Josephine was a member of Riverton Christian Church. She belonged to the VFW #755 Auxiliary in Springfield. She was a lifetime member of DAV in Phoenix, AZ. She loved the outdoors. Her favorite outdoor activities were fishing and working in her yard. Josephine was a homemaker and worked for the State of Illinois for 18 years, retiring at the age of 84.
Visitation: 10:30 – 11:30 am, Tuesday, January 25, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman with Pastor Larry Crawford officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective League.
CDC protocol shall be followed.
