Joseph T. “Joe” Mordock

Joseph T. “Joe” Mordock, 64, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, where he went to be reunited with his parents, Joseph P. and Dorothy C. (Richardson) Mordock. He was born August 21, 1957, in Springfield, where he was a lifelong resident.

He left behind one sister, Deborah J. Lewis of Riverton; five nieces and one nephew: Cherish Burton of Springfield, Tara (Donald) Becker of Mechanicsburg, David (Shelby Skiles) Lewis of Riverton, Jennifer (Matt) Johnson of Taylorville, Alyssa (Greg) Regan of Pleasant Plains, and Breeanna Lewis of Loami; four great-nieces; six great nephews; three great-great nieces and two great-great nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joe graduated from Lanphier High School in 1975. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He took pride and was dedicated in his work. At the age of 18, he first started working at the Steak N Shake on Wabash and several others before ending up at the North Dirksen location. Joe was known as “The” Grill Cook. He was well known and well-liked by his fellow co-workers and many customers.

They will truly miss his willingness to always lend a helping hand and his laughter and silly jokes. He was deeply loved by his family. He loved playing the guitar, listening to music and playing tennis with his nieces. One of the fondest memories is his 4th of July celebrations.

Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Friday, October 1, 2021, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Sr. Maira Barry O.P. officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
