Joseph Edward King

Joseph Edward (Joe) King Sr, 87, of East Flat Rock, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville, after a brief illness.

He was born in Buncombe County to the late Wiley and Minnie (Boyd) King. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Novella Justice.

Before residing in East Flat Rock, he lived in Sandy Mush. He worked as a dairy farmer, and at the Salvation Army, former owner of King’s Grocery and Hardware. Joseph was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening, checkers, card games, spending time with his family, racing, and cooking cornbread.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy King; daughters, Peggy Neblung and husband Mark of Clinton, IA; Vickie Wise and husband Gary of Arden, NC; sons, Joseph King and his fiancée Kimberly of Dewy Rose , GA; Matthew King of Hendersonville , NC; Mark King and his wife Azucena of Minot, ND; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Benjamin, Tracie, Connie, Wendy, Toni, Randy, Katie, Daniel, Samantha, Tiffany, Wiley more than fifteen great grandchildren; brother Fred King and his wife Sue of Austin, TX; and many nieces and nephews, and long time friends Maggie, Loretta, and Wayne.

A funeral service will be held at eleven o’clock a. m. on Friday, July 16, 2021, in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with graveside services to follow.
