Joseph A. Beneky

Joseph A. “Bobo” Beneky, 81, of Springfield died at 8:45 pm, Friday, October 29, 2021 at Walley World amusement park with the Griswolds (at least in Bobo’s words). He was born July 15, 1940 in Springfield the son of Joseph and Elsie Mae (Smith) Beneky. He married Nancy Schmidt in May 1964 in Springfield.

Bobo is survived by his wife, Nancy; his beloved children, son, Bradley (Karrie) Beneky of Springfield; two daughters, Heather (Mike) Musgrove of Petersburg and Holly (Jim) Dahlquist of Springfield; five grandchildren, Grace, Spencer, Brent (Kristen), Skyler, Caroline; three great grandchildren, Isaac, Ellie, AJ; sister, Kathy (David) Blakley of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lavine Roberts.

Joe attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Cathedral Boys Catholic High School in 1959. He retired as an accounting supervisor at Honeywell/Hobbs Corporations. He was of the Catholic Faith.

He was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association, the Illinois Horseshoe Pitchers Association and was a past president of the Earl Bomke & Don Bailey Horseshoe Club in Springfield, winning several state level horseshoe competitions. Bobo was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and SHG football.

Joe’s family and friends were a priority in his life. He loved the Lord with all his heart and lived for Him.

Bobo was the brightest light in any room and touched so many with his kindness, humor, and laughter.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Christopher House officiating. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Art Association.
