John Michael “Willie” Ferguson, 67, of Springfield, passed away on May 14, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born in Springfield on December 31, 1953 to Hugh Joseph Ferguson, Jr., and Patricia Colleen Weyrauch. John married Debra Fox on December 31, 1998.
John is survived by his wife, Debra Ferguson; parents, Hugh and Patricia Ferguson of Springfield; six children, Cassie Ferguson Carter (Jeremy Woodyard) of New Berlin, Robert (Anne) Fox of Sherman, Jonathon Ferguson (Amanda Steele) of Springfield, Jess Fireline (Steven Flournoy) of Springfield, Kayla (Adam) Robinson of Owensville, IN and Ellie Ferguson (Derek Miller) of Pawnee; seven grandchildren; one sister, Carole (James) Britton of Springfield; three brothers, David (Barbara) Ferguson and Hugh Joseph Ferguson (Lucy Choate), both of Branson, MO, and Tim Ferguson of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in the Vietnam War.
John was a life-long resident of Springfield. He was the owner of Angelo’s Pizza in Chatham for 20 years and worked as a laborer until his retirement in 2013. He loved playing horseshoes. He was an avid Chicago CUBS fan and adored his beloved dog, “Lady Bird.”
Visitation: 11:30 AM-1:30 PM, Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home –Springfield with Pastor Paul Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
