John Michael Stapleton

John Michael Stapleton, age 94, a lifelong resident of Chicago. Proud Army Air Corps WWII Veteran, and one of the “Greatest Generation”. Beloved husband of the late Evangeline “Connie” Constance Stapleton, nee Xamplas for 54 wonderful years. Devoted father to Linda (Evan) Vlaeminck, Tracy (the late Matthew) Chagdes, and Jason (Devon) Stapleton. Cherished grandfather of Madeline, Leon Ethan, Vivienne, and John Owen. Preceded in death by his parents Berdine and John Stapleton. Dear brother of the late Alice (Chet) Miles, Joe (Loretta) Stapleton, and David Stapleton. Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. John was a longtime resident of the northwest side of Chicago, and worked for the city of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation Bureau of Electricity for 46 years. He was a well loved and respected member of Edgebrook Community. He loved ballroom dancing, that is how he met his wife, the late Connie Stapleton. He enjoyed playing volleyball at St Mary of the Woods Church and cheering on his favorite football team the Chicago Bears. John was a wonderful father who loved to spend time with his wife and three children, as well as walking his dog Chloe throughout the neighborhood. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave. Chicago from 12:00-2:00PM. Interment private. For more information please call 773-736-3833.
