John E. Hoellerich

John Edward Hoellerich, 92, of Springfield, passed from this life into eternal life on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Cedarhurst of Springfield. He was born November 2, 1929 in Oak Park, IL, the son of John and Myrtle (Menke) Hoellerich. He married Betty Ruth Milby on November 1, 1958. She preceded him in death October 21, 2021.

He is also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jean Henning and Betty Becker; and brother, Donald Hoellerich.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice (Jeff) Johnson of Springfield, Julie (Dwight) Swanson of Branson, MO, and Sally Lisnek of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Ashley) Walbert, Brittany (Phil) Laurent, Krista (Aaron) Peña, Katie Swanson, Jennifer (Devin) Sykes, Erich Lisnek, Evan Lisnek, and Ally Lisnek; and six great-grandchildren, Gavin and Weston Laurent, Garrett and Adaline Rusnak, and Logan and Micah Peña.

“Jack” was a member of Cherry Hills Church and recently attended First United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. He was always happy to meet other veterans and exchange stories. Jack and his wife enjoyed traveling and attended the annual reunion for the U.S.S. Neches.

Jack was a member of IBEW for 60 years, retiring from local #193. After retirement, he became a full-time custodian at Cherry Hills Baptist Church where he kept the floors sparkling and the hymnals perfectly aligned for many years.

Jack grew up in Suburban Cook County and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He attended many games at Wrigley Field, including seeing the Cubs play in the 1945 World Series. The Cubs won the 2016 World Series on his birthday. Living in Central Illinois, he enjoyed friendly joking with avid Cardinal fans.

His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will remember “Papa” as a hard-working family man of deep faith.

Visitation: 10 – 11 am, Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Cherry Hills Church.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Cherry Hills Church with Pastor Jeff Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodwreath Cemetery.
