John Dean Inskeep Jr., 89, of Cedar Rapids, beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend died on March 6, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be at Radiant Church Cedar Rapids, IA with visitation Sunday March 10th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and funeral service at 10:30 am Monday March 11t.h. Burial to follow at 2:00pm at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
John was born in Centerville, Iowa on November 22, 1934, to parents John Dean Inskeep Sr. and Margaret Kate (McDaniel) Inskeep. He was born on Justamere Farm in Centerville where his dad operated a dairy and supplied milk to the surrounding area. John occasionally accompanied his father on the milk route. He grew up in Centerville until he was 11 years-old. The family moved to Virginia in 1945 where John attended school until returning to Seymour, IA for his senior year of high school.
John graduated in 1958 from Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman University) of Kirksville, Missouri with a degree in Business Administration. Between his sophomore and junior year of college he enlisted in the Air Force pilot training program and proudly served his country for several years. Following graduation from college, he accepted employment at the US Epperson Underwriting Company of Kansas City Mo, then with National Fidelity Life of Kansas City. He also later worked for the General United Insurance Company of West Des Moines, IA before accepting a position as the Underwriter at Western Fraternal Life Association of Cedar Rapids, where he worked until retirement in 1999.
Through a college roommate, John met the love of his life, Guadalupe C. (Hernandez) House and on May 31,1968 they were married in Irving, TX. Lupe brought three children into John’s life, and a son, John Daniel was born in 1971 to complete their family. The family lived in Independence, MO until moving to Cedar Rapids in 1976.
John’s faith and family were important to him and he shared his faith in Jesus with his family and others. His legacy lives on in their lives. He served as an elder at First Assembly of God (now Radiant Church) for many years. He especially enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s sports and musical activities. During the last few years, the videos and FaceTime with great-grandchildren was a special delight.
Surviving John are his wife, Lupe, of 55 years, and children, John Daniel “Dan” Inskeep, David (Jo) House Des Moines, Gregory (Deb) House, Loveland, CO, Andrea (Dan) Terrones, Marshalltown and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Grandchildren: Michael (Emily) House, Des Moines, Erin House, Des Moines,
Brian (Alexandra) House, Atlanta, GA, Brandon (Ruby) House, Berthoud, CO, Benjamin (Sydney) Terrones, Lakewood, CO, Emily (Bailey) Moore, Waterloo,
Joshua Terrones, Des Moines, Olivia Terrones, Scottsbluff, NE, Joseph Terrones, Marshalltown. Great-grandchildren: Augustine, Hezekiah, Julia, Leighton, and Isla.
John was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law Agustin and Stefana (Gurisco) Hernandez, brother William (Bill) Inskeep, sisters Dorothy Beard and Mary Ann Rhead, sisters-in-law Vera Inskeep, Lucille Castillo, brothers-in-law Agustin J. Hernandez, Tony Castillo, Glenn Rhead, and Lyle Beard
