John Alvin “Pete” Rouse, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, with his wife by his side at Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Private family burial will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery.
Pete was born on July 10, 1936, the son of Elmer and Anna J. (Parkhurst) Rouse. On December 29, 1956, Pete was united in marriage to Nelda Jean Mastain in Marion. He worked at Colonial Bakery for 30 years, then at Coe College for 10 years until his retirement in 1998. Pete attended Faith Bible Church for over 40 years and was a Marion Police Reserve Officer. He loved the races, following Iowa football, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. Pete will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pete is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Nelda J. Rouse of Marion; sons, Scott (Melissa) Rouse of Raleigh, North Carolina, Allen Rouse of Marion; five grandchildren, Desiree Rouse, and her children Alexis and Maci Vore, Kyle (Bailie) Rouse, who are expecting their first child, Audrey (Jordan) Shepherd, Jake Rouse, and Austin Rouse; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Rouse; three brothers, Bud, Mike, and Duane Rouse; and sister, Lila Akers.
Memorials in Pete’s memory may be directed to the family to be shared with several charities in his honor.
