John Alfred Mifflin

John Alfred Mifflin, 94, of Springfield, died on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born on May 12, 1928, in Harrisburg, to Henry and Beulah (Spurlock) Mifflin. He married Barbara Prater on April 14, 1949 and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2020.
Surviving are three sons, Steven Mifflin of Gilbert, AZ, Mark (Marcia) Mifflin of Springfield, and David (Shaun) Mifflin of Jacksonville; one daughter, Lisa White of Indianapolis, IN; 8 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Henry and Robert Mifflin; one sister, Mary Freeman; and one granddaughter, Caroline Mifflin.
John belonged to First United Methodist Church, in Springfield. He graduated from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana. He worked for Sangamo Construction, Caldwell Engineering in Jacksonville, Reymueth Corporation, and Sankey Construction. His time with Sangamo Construction included international work in Haiti and Kuwait.
John was a civil engineer, contractor, owner and President of Mifflin Construction Company. He served his county as a United States Navy Veteran. John was a Freemason, enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and reading about war history.
Memorial Gathering: 10 – 11 am, Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with a Masonic Service beginning at 10 am.
Memorial Service: Private family only memorial service will be held with burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Springfield First United Methodist Church.
