John A. “Jack” Huffman, Jr.

John A. “Jack” Huffman, Jr., 73, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born September 17, 1948, in Springfield, the son of John A. Huffman, Sr. and Beverly J. (Geller) Huffman. He married Sharon A. Goodwin on September 15, 2000 and she survives.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Melissa Huffman of Oakland, CA and Rebecca (David) Nika of Petersburg; three grandchildren, Hannah Lee, Daniel Lee and Jessica Nika; brother, Robert L. Huffman of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry L. Huffman.

Jack was a resident of Springfield most of his life. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He served as treasurer for R.I.C.’s board and had served on the Lutheran High School board. Jack loved to read books. His favorite sports teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Fighting Illini. He enjoyed listening to music from the 50’s and 60’s, including Doo-wop and Jimmy Buffet.

Jack earned his bachelors degree from SSU and his CPA certification from U of I. He worked for the department of corrections for over 20 years as their chief accountant and had previously worked for Franklin Life. Jack was a United States Air Force veteran and was stationed in Thule, Greenland.

A private graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
