John A. Canavan

John A. Canavan, 96, of Hendersonville died Monday, October 25, at Pardee Hospital. Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of Robert A. and Rose Snow Canavan. He attended Andrew Jackson High School in Queens. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years as a Private First Class and was present during the invasion of Normandy. He was also in Northern France and the Rhineland in Germany. Following his military service, John served as Patrolman for the New York City Police Department for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. He had lived in Freeport, Long Island, NY prior to moving to Hendersonville upon retirement. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and had been a member of the American Legion for 72 years.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Doris; nieces and nephews George (Linda), Marie (Gene), Jeanne, John (Diane), James (Debra), Robert (Kathy), Mary jo (Greg), Charles and Greg (Diane) as well as many great- nieces and nephews.

A mass of the resurrection will be celebrated Friday, October 29, in the main sanctuary of Immaculate Conception Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
