Joe Patterson

Joe Patterson, 83, of Springfield died at 4:50 pm, Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. He was born September 21, 1937 in Roodhouse, IL to Harold Raymond and Lorean Hylia (Waters) Patterson. He married Bonnie Perkins on September 1, 1956 and she preceded him in death on January 14, 2006.

Also preceding him in death are his parents; daughter, Terri Dobson and one sister, Betty Waldrop.

He is survived by one son, Larry (Brenda) Patterson of Spaulding; son-in-law, Howard “Buck” Dobson of Chandlerville, IL; three grandsons, Lucas (Amy) Patterson of Rochester, Mitchell Patterson of Kansas City, MO, and Andrew Kother of Florida; three great grandchildren, Camryn and Brenton Patterson and Lily Kother; one sister, Sharon (Jack) Osburn of Springfield; five brothers, Bobby (Wanita) Patterson of Virden, Gary (Catherine) Patterson of Kingston, WA, Jimmy (Judy) Patterson, and Mike (Sue) Patterson, both of Springfield and Jerry (Delores) Patterson of Modesto, IL and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He retired from Allis-Chalmers after 30 years of service. He then went on to work at Lincoln Land Community College and Heart Trucking Company.

Joe was a past member of Masonic Lodge #539. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid race fan, motorcyclist, and car enthusiast.

The family will host a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery.
