Jerome Brophy, 86, passed away March 23, 2024 at Trinity Medical Center in Bettendorf. Per his wishes, Jerry will be cremated with no funeral services. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Jerry was born to William and Hilda (Vigen) Brophy on May 28, 1937 in Fergus Falls, MN. Following his graduation from Luther College, Jerry moved to Cedar Rapids for a position at United Fire and Casualty. Jerry was united in marriage with Karen Daehn, of Wheatland, IA, May 1, 1960. Following Karen’s death, he met and married Carol Palmquist, of Ames, IA, October 9, 1993. Jerry was a truck driver for Hubbard Milling and Nash Finch until his retirement in 1996.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Carol and his sons: Craig (Joyce) Brophy of Cedar Rapids and Brett (Peggy) Brophy of Fairfax. Grandchildren: Valerie Brophy of Minneapolis, MN; Oscar (Samantha) Brophy of Independence; Calvin (Cecily Linsenmeyer) Brophy of Burlington, VT and Payton (James Johnson) Brophy of Waterloo. Great-granddaughters: Olivia and Saige Brophy. Jerry’s stepdaughters: Lisa (Stewart) Haugen of Minneapolis, MN and Jennifer (Kyle) Krier of Bettendorf. Stepgrandchildren: Ali (Zach Yadon) Krier and Danny (Zephaniah Winters) Krier, both of Bettendorf; and Elizabeth and Oscar Haugen both of Minneapolis, MN. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Karen, and sisters: Irene Brophy and Marjorie Tomhave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Luther College’s General Scholarship Fund.
