Jeffrey Allen Decker was born October 30, 1963 at St. Lukes Hospital, in Cedar Rapids, to Edwin and Marcia (Barnes) Decker. He attended Clarence Elementary and Clarence-Lowden Elementary and Junior High School. Jeff was baptized at the Clarence Methodist Church and confirmed on April 23, 1978 as a member of the Clarence Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday March 9 from 4-7 p.m..Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

He attended Clarence-Lowden High School where he was in the band and choir, played baseball and football, was a member of the homecoming court and played the lead in several of his high school musicals, including Curly in Oklahoma and Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music. While in high school he worked on his grandparents’ farm to save up to buy his first car, a Laguna. He graduated from Clarence-Lowden High School on May 23, 1982 and attended Kirkwood Community College for agriculture graduating in May of 1984.

On July 6, 1985, he married Lisa Scheer, his high school sweetheart at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowden. Jeff was an exceptional handy man and a hard worker. In his earlier years, he played slow pitch and fast pitch softball alongside his brothers-in-law, who could always make him laugh. He made many friends along his career path first working for Lowden Feed Service, then Clarence Co-op/River Valley Co-op and Wendling Quarries. He was born to, and loved to, drive any truck. He delivered feed and propane, but was happiest in an 18 wheeler. He owned his own trucking business, JD Trucking, for several years, but was currently driving for Daufeldt Transport in Muscatine. He truly loved his job.

Jeff could fix anything and always had “things to do”. In his spare time he always had to be working on something; usually tearing apart scrap metal, cleaning or repairing cars, his trucks, or tinkering with a Farmall F-20 which was a gift from his father in law.

He was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan, a collector of 1/16 and 1/64 toy tractors, Midwest Old Thresher buttons, Milwaukee tools and anything International Harvester. He enjoyed spending time with family during holidays and get togethers and attending sporting events and activities over the years of his many nieces and nephews. He also adored and will be greatly missed by his four cats, Lucky, Jet, Axell and Ellie.

Jeff was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Lowden, where he served as an elder and trustee for many years. He also sang in both the men’s and mixed choirs.

He is survived by his wife Lisa, his mom Marcia Decker; his dad Edwin (Karilyn) Decker; sister Pam (Karen) Decker; sisters-in-law Karla (Brian) and Meline; brothers-in-law Doug (Beth), David (Jeanne), Mike (Beth), Steve (Janet), and Chris (Joan); 19 nieces and nephews and their spouses; Aaron, Allison, Jessica, Jeffrey, Adam, Erika, Megan, Matt, Amanda, Emily, Jenna, Anthony, Katrina, Elizabeth, Marissa, Cassandra, Jonathan, Sarah, and Connor; 12 great-nieces and nephews Brynlee, Breegan, Evelyn, Gracelyn, Henry, Everly, Rylie, Maya, Hudson, Sterling, Axel and Aliyah; and cousin and best friend Mark Hunwardsen.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents; father- and mother-in-law Dorance and Dorothy Scheer; brother-in-law Randy Scheer; sister-in-law Joy Scheer; and nephew Ben Scheer.
