Jean Ethel Brown, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Jean was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Bernard and Ethel (Keegan) Brown. She lived in Cedar Rapids for the first 93 years of her life, moving to Altoona recently. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Iowa and was a teacher for her entire career. She taught in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area for over 43 years. Jean was extremely dedicated to her family and always put them first. She was a lifelong avid Hawkeyes fan.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Wolfe; sister-in-law, Dorothy Brown; nieces, Kathy (Michael) Naylor, Kindra (Larry) Nudd and Carie (Stephen) Kramer; nephews, Robert (Pam) Wolfe, Matthew (Tammy) Brown, Michael Brown and Mark (Jackie) Brown; many great-nieces and -nephews, other extended family, and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Ethel Brown; brother, Robert Brown; brother-in-law, Bill Wolfe; nephew, Donald Wolfe; and great-nephew, Troy Brown.
Funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd., Des Moines, at 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, with a luncheon to follow. Family will greet guests one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at Marengo Cemetery at 3 p.m.
