Jay William Huston

Jay William Huston

Jay William Huston, 67, of Dover, a selfless, dedicated family man, passed away of a sudden illness in his home on April 13, 2021.

Born in Dennison on July 22, 1953, he is the son of Harold Eugene and Mary Lou (McCune) Huston of Port Washington.

After graduating from Indian Valley South High School in 1971, where he was an outstanding athlete and academic student, Jay continued his formal education at Marietta College, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Jay’s professional career began in the oil and gas industry before he transitioned to Republic Steel where he served as a manager for numerous years prior to his retirement.

Jay enjoyed listening to music and especially loved The Who and Elton John. Along with his brothers and cousins, he spent many hours at the Tuscarawas River fishing and camping. He was also an avid mushroom hunter in spring. An intelligent man, he had a photographic memory for facts and trivia and was often proven right through a quick Google search. However, the highlight of his life was spending time doting on his grandchildren. They brought true joy and light to his life. He loved singing songs to them and was always on top of the latest, coolest toys to play with. His passing leaves an immeasurable hole in their lives. So much more could be said, but Dad would tell us to get to the point, and the point is this: Dad was as quiet and humble a man as anyone would ever meet, but he was a testament as to how to overcome adversity and live a happy, joyous life centering on placing family first and himself last.

Jay was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother to his family. He is survived by his wife, Joette Carol (Luthy) Huston of Dover; his children, Jayson (Michelle) Huston of West Virginia, Samantha (Gregory) Clements of Dover, and Nathan (Kimberly) Huston of Bolivar; his grandchildren, Ethan, Norah, Wyatt and Gavin Clements, and Hannah, Trent, and Brooke Huston; his siblings, Jeff (Mary) Huston, Mark (Kathy) Huston, Eric (Natalie) Huston; and his brothers-in-law, Mike (Anne) Gunther, Wes (Shelley) Luthy and Ash (Penny) Luthy. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins complete Jay’s family.

Jay was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Ann (Gunther) Huston whom he married in September 1973. She passed away in March 1985. He has also been reunited with his best friend and cousin, the late Mike McCune. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Jack and Marge Gunther and Bruce and JoAnn (Luthy) Miller.

Memorial visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. Father Jeff Coning will officiate a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021, in the funeral home. Inurnment will follow the service in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
