James Johnstone, Jr., 85, of Sherman, died at 7:35 pm, Monday, February 22, 2021 in Sherman, IL. He was born September 4, 1935 to James and Nora (Cooke) Johnstone. He married Gloria Vose in 1961 and she passed in 2001. He married Mary Ann Baptist in 2003 and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Randy and Ronnie (Rosario) Johnstone, both of Springfield; two step children, Dan (Gari) Hurst of Springfield and Greg (Ellen) Sharma of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren, Alan (Kalee), Ilse, Jocelyn and Kennedy; three step grandchildren, Jacinto (Joe) Catalano, Anthony (Krystal) Buscher and Nikki Hurst; three great grandchildren, Joseph and Easton Catalano and Lorenzo Dean Johnstone and one on the way; one step great grandchild, Beckam Buscher and one on the way and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael James Johnstone; a brother and two sisters.
James was a member of Westside Christian Church.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Elks, Eagles, Telephone Pioneers and Aqua Sports Club. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks fan. He belonged to Masonic Lodge #523 for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army Signal Corps.
James retired in 1984 from Western Electric as an installation supervisor.
Visitation: 4 – 6 pm, Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Monday, March 1, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman with Pastor Mike Harney officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
CDC Protocol shall be followed.
