James “Jim” Walter Morrow, 88, passed away on May 27, 2023, after battling pancreatic cancer for several months. He was born Jan. 28,1935, in Iowa City.

His family includes his only daughter, Diane Fickel and husband Gary; granddaughters, Megan Snyder (Patrick) and Lindsey Dixon (Kevin Koffron); and six great-grandchildren, Milo, Quincy and Bowen Snyder, Tanner Dixon, and Karter and Keegan Koffron.

His wife for 57 years, Shirley (Campbell), whom he met in the second grade, preceded Jim in death in 2011.

Jim valued his family and faith above all else. He also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals and found joy in listening or playing all kinds of music.

Jim attended the University of Iowa and earned his M.A. degree in counseling after serving in the U.S. Army. Jim was a proud veteran.

Jim started Greater Iowa Financial Services in Cedar Rapids and worked in the insurance industry for nearly 40 years. Prior to his career in business, he was a guidance counselor/teacher at Marion High School and Lincoln of Stanwood Mechanicsville. His love for athletics allowed him to also enjoy many years of coaching basketball and baseball at the high school level. Jim was a servant leader and exemplified dignity in all he pursued.

Jim spent the last three years loving life at Legacy Pointe’s assisted living residence in Iowa City. Previously he lived in Iowa City, Marion, Stanwood and grew up in the West Branch area graduating from Springdale High School.

The visitation for Jim will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Gay and Ciha Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at the funeral home with burial following at the West Branch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be used to thank Iowa City Hospice for their kindness and support during Jim’s illness.
