James “Jim” E. Hemann, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023. Jim was a cherished presence in the lives of many, who has left us with heavy hearts as he joins his beloved wife Roxanne, son Kurtis, his parents and numerous other family members and friends in heaven.
With his passing he leaves behind a void that will never be filled. Jim is survived by his daughters, Alicia (Ray), Katie (Mike) and Amanda (Jarrod); grandchildren, Damien, Lucas, Xavier, Jacob, Johnathan, Carter, Kylie and Ayden; great-grandchildren, Aizen and Isaac; and siblings, Larry (Jill) and Connie (Jim).
Jim brought boundless love and joy to those fortunate enough to cross his path. As a father, he exuded warmth and kindness, providing unwavering support and gentle guidance to his children throughout their lives. He was an extraordinary role model and, above all, a loving presence whose strength lay in his ability to put others first.
His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and they have been blessed to experience his genuine affection. Jim delighted in their accomplishments, reveled in their laughter, and cherished the moments spent together. He leaves behind memories that will forever shape and inspire them.
His unwavering dedication to helping others endeared him to many, as he selflessly offered support or his helping hand whenever needed. He possessed an innate ability to bring comfort and joy to those in his presence, leaving an indelible impact on their lives.
Jim found his joy and solace in the great outdoors. Fishing trips served as precious moments with family and friends. He also was a hunter, finding both challenge and fulfillment in the pursuit of game. These passions allowed him to forge lifelong friendships and create countless memories with loved ones. Beyond his love for outdoor pursuits, he found joy in working on cars, skillfully wielding his tools to breathe life into old machines.
Jim’s kind and gentle soul will be profoundly missed by his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May we honor his memory by emulating his boundless kindness, his unwavering dedication to family and friends, and his deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, followed by burial at Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
