Jack Curtis Mather, 75, of Cedar Rapids died Friday, February 21, 2025, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospice. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2025, at St. Ludmilla Catholic Church by Rev. Kenneth Glaser. Burial: Palo Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited with a Vigil Service to follow at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not wishing to attend the Rosary and Vigil Service can visit with the family on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Wednesday at the church after 9:30 a.m.
Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda; son, Scott (Kristie) Mather of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Carrie (Chris) Rechkemmer of Fairbank; grandchildren, Taylor, Carlie, and Grant Mather, Aiden and Jack Jans, and Samuel Rechkemmer; brother, Clifford (Wendy) Mather; sisters, Sonja Cornell, and LaNell (Wally) Walrath; and his faithful dog, Junior.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Timothy Mather; and brother-in-law, Lenny Cornell.
Jack was born on January 10, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Clifford and Eunice Young Mather. Jack was a proud Army veteran, serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970. On February 17, 1973, he married Linda Peiffer in Van Horne. Jack worked at Midland Forge and Cargill Cornstarch.
Jack loved moments with his family and friends, and spending time at his cabin in Toronto, IA. He had a passion for storytelling, especially when sharing stories with his grandchildren. Jack also enjoyed watching movies featuring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He was very proud to serve his country and was honored with a Quilt of Valor and had the memorable experience of taking a Veteran’s Honor Flight alongside his son. At the age of 55, he embraced the Catholic faith.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Ludmilla Catholic Church Building Fund.
