Ivory Roy Simmons

Ivory Roy Simmons

Ivory Roy Simmons, 101, of Williamsburg, passed away on February 6, 2021. He lived an amazingly full life and will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, unwavering positivity, and willingness to help others.

Roy served in the Army during World War II in the XV Corps 3rd Field Artillery Observation Battalion in the European theatre of operations. He spent his civilian years in various sales roles.

Roy loved to travel going on to visit all 48 contiguous states with his wife Peggy and travel to the UK to visit his daughter and her family. He could be found spending time with family and friends, going to his Army reunions all over the US, going out to eat, playing cards (he particularly enjoyed a good game of Liverpool Rummy), and bowling.  He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist church and enjoyed singing in the church choir and going to the monthly Golden Agers pot lucks. One of the things he loved most of all was ferrying the kids when they were young to their skating and swim competitions.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Simmons; and siblings, Betty, Mary Lou, Velmer, Walter, KU, Jack, Troy, Oval, and Clarence. He is survived by his sons, Alan Simmons and wife Amy, and Brian Simmons; daughter, Luann Simmons and husband, Vincent Garrett; grandchildren, Rebecca Simmons, Nathan Simmons, Elysia Frances-Garrett; and great grandson, Gabriel Alexander.

A memorial service is to be scheduled later in May.

Memorial contributions may be made in Roy’s name to Macular Degeneration and COPD charities.
