Grimes

Henry Carl Schuerer, 35, passed away in his home and entered into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ on March 13, 2023. Jesus came into Henry’s heart at the age of 6 and baptized into the faith at 13. Henry knows the way, but the world fed him a lie. He has been freed into the arms of Jesus.

He was born at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, on Dec. 15, 1987. He attended Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg, Iowa, from Kindergarten to fifth grade before attending Isaac Newton Christian Academy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Williamsburg Iowa High School, then graduating from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, with a master’s degree in accounting. Upon the recommendation of Henry’s mentor Doyle Souser, he earned a Certified Public Accounting designation and worked as an accountant.

Henry walked through life with a passion for the outdoors and had an infectious laugh. He was an avid outdoorsman, always up for an adventure, who was determined to make his mini goldendoodle, Walter, his hunting partner. His lifelong love for the outdoors began early as he achieved his rank as an Eagle Scout at 15 years old. Every spring Henry could be found deep in the wilderness hunting for his beloved morel mushrooms.

One of his many goals was to visit all of the United States National Parks in his cherished Toyota Tacoma. He had a love for discovering new music and enjoyed seeing his favorite artists at outdoor concerts. Contrary to his adventurous side, Henry also appreciated a good Sunday afternoon nap.

Henry was lovingly referred to as ‘Hank’ by his Phi Gamma Delta fraternity brothers and enjoyed spending time with many close friends.

A little bit of every sunrise will remind us of Henry, who firmly believed each sunrise symbolized renewed life and hope.

Henry is a beloved son, brother and uncle and is survived by his parents, Neal and Melissa Schuerer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his sister, Greta Cummings, her husband Aaron, and his three nephews, Gabriel, Mitchel and Jacob Cummings of Mount Union; his fiancee, Megan Halsch of West Des Moines, Iowa; as well as his maternal grandparents, Duane and Louis Ann Crossett of Columbus Junction, Iowa; and paternal grandmother “Oma” Helen Schuerer of Amana, Iowa. Henry has several aunts, uncles and cousins who will also dearly miss him.

Henry was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather “Opa” Harold Schuerer; and “Uncle Chuck” Carl Schuerer, both of Amana, Iowa.
