Henry A. “Duey” DuPont

Henry A. “Duey” DuPont, 90, of Springfield, died at 4:35 pm, Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Bickford House. He was born August 8, 1931 in Springfield, to Henry A. and Mary (Swoik) DuPont. He married Evelyn M. Harmony on September 15, 1951 and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2011.

Survivors include three sons, Maurice H. (Ginny) DuPont of Cincinnati, OH, Laurence E. (Judi) DuPont of Rochester and Richard A. DuPont of Springfield; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; brother, David (Jill) DuPont of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Glenda DuPont of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister Madeline Carey and brother, Ronald DuPont.

Henry was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a Cryptographer with top secret clearance and was drafted in intelligence. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant in three years. He was able to take an Honor Flight on September 10, 2013.

He was a member of Church of the Little Flower; Knights of Columbus Council #346. He served as secretary for the Knights of Columbus golf League from 1996-2018. He was a professional musician since sixteen and his first gig was at Curly’s Tavern in Riverton and played with Bobby Remac Band since 1988.

Henry worked for Sangamo Electric until 1963; then worked for Patterson Brothers and Angelo’s House Building Supply. He later worked as an independent contractor. In 1976 he started his own business with his brother, DuPont Brothers Floor Covering, and retired after fifteen years.

Visitation: 10-11 am, Friday, January 7, 2022 at Church of the Little Flower.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Friday, January 7, 2022 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend Al Kemme officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made for Masses at Church of the Little Flower or Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
