Harry Lee Courtney, Sr., 89, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022 at his home. He was born January 21, 1933 in Springfield, son of the late John William Edward and Nellie Ethel (South) Courtney. He is preceded in death by his second wife Regina (Leach) Courtney, former wife Margaret Rose (Bineham) Courtney, and son, Steven Eugene Courtney.
Harry graduated from Iles School and attended Feitshans High School. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War era. Harry was a lifelong member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 965. He was an active member of Eastview Baptist Church and the American Legion. He loved listening to country and gospel music. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, fishing, hunting, woodworking and motorcycle riding. Harry retired from Richardson Manufacturing as a machinist.
Survivors include his son Harry Lee Courtney, Jr. (Marian Graham) of Ellabell, GA, daughter Cherie Courtney-Price (Andrew Walden) of Standard City; son Kevin (Christina Houston) Courtney of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, David, Dallas, Helen (Branden) McBroom, and Christina; great-grandchild, Scotland Courtney; brother, John Edward Courtney of Riverton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 10 – 11:30 am Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Eastview Baptist Church.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Eastview Baptist Church with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastview Baptist Church.
