Greg Hansel Harrison, age 73, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024, in Anamosa, IA, of heart failure. A family memorial service will be held at a later date, officiated by Reverand Joseph Blay. Memorials in Greg’s memory may be made to First United Methodist Church, Marengo, IA, where he was a member for many years. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Greg is survived by his sister, Sara (Joe) Goergen of Cedar Rapids, IA; cousin, Ellen (Tom) Harbin, Atlanta, GA; cousin, Steve (Barb) Tandy, Carl Junction, MO; nieces and nephews, Laura Kimm (Andy Frommelt), Blairstown, IA, Chris Rodman, Mt. Vernon, IA, Jonathan (Shelly) Goergen, Ankeny, IA, Jeff (Missy) Goergen, Atlantic, IA, Kim (Sushant) Malhotra, Burlingame, CA, and many much-loved great-nieces and -nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Herbert and Verla Harrison; maternal grandparents, Eli and Nellie Gregson; parents, Gerald and Vivian Harrison; niece, Christine Rodman and cousin, Mark Tandy.

Greg was born October 18, 1950, and raised in Marengo, Iowa. He was the son of Gerald and Vivian Harrison. He graduated from Iowa Valley Community School District, Marengo, in 1970. After graduation, Greg worked in the family furniture store and funeral service businesses. Greg was exceptionally talented at working on electronics and electrical equipment. Electronics and CB radios were his passion. He also loved listening to 60’s and 70’s music and was very interested in space exploration, current events, politics and world news.

Greg cherished his family and friendships above all else. He was kind and compassionate by nature. He sat by his mother’s side religiously for several years as she battled Alzheimer’s Disease. He loved hearing news about his family and their interests. He was a big presence in the lives of his family, and he will be missed.

Greg’s family extends our thanks to Jones County Regional Medical Center and Kloster Funeral Home for their assistance to Greg and his family. Thank you to Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center, and each of their staff and nurses, who provided compassionate care to Greg over the past two years, with special mention to Cassie, his favorite nurse.
