She was born on a farm south of South English on January 27, 1938, to Hal Huber and Beatrice (Herr) Huber. She attended a one room schoolhouse kindergarten through 3rd grade, then went to Keota Public School 4th through 12th grade. She graduated from high school in 1956. The fall of ’56 she went to the Gale Institute on railroad and airline communication. Navy Civil Service recruiters talked her into going to Washington, D.C. in January 1957. She worked for the Navy Department-BUPERS. Gloria got married and left Washington, D.C. in late 1959 to move to San Diego, CA. Her son Grant was born on October 15, 1960. She was divorced shortly thereafter. She then got a job at the Naval Air Station, Noth Island, Coronado. While working at EDPOPAC she met Robert Fletcher in May 1970, and they married in August 1970 at Coronado Presbyterian Church. She worked at various departments, then transferred to FLEASTRACENPAC, San Diego. Gloria stayed there until July 1988 when she retired from civil service. She stayed home for a short time and then came back to Marion to help her mom after her dad died. She went back to San Diego, then she and Robert decided to move back to Marion, so they sold their house in a day and got back to Iowa in February 1989. They settled in Marion. Gloria and her mom went to many garage and yard sales. Then in October 1995 Higley Mansion thought they needed Gloria temporary part time to help set up the administrative office, etc. That lasted until October 2005.
