Gerard Gregory “Greg” Greeley
- August 18, 2021
Gerard Gregory “Greg” Greeley, 63, of Springfield died at 1:45 Sunday, August 15, 2021 at his home. He was born July 25, 1958 in Shreveport, LA to Gerard and Theresa E. (Rock) Greeley.
He is survived by his mother, Theresa Greeley of Milford, MI; two sisters, Dianne (Michael) George of Commerce Township, MI and Denise Barofsky of Grand Rapids, MI; nieces and nephews, Christopher, Daniel, Emily and Isabelle Barofsky and Anna, Lucy and Michael George; two aunts; one uncle; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerard and two brothers, Kevin and Brian.
Greg retired from a long career at Illinois Bell. He was an active member of the Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Congregation. He was quick to lend a hand to those in need and gravitated to the vulnerable and less fortunate. Much of his volunteer work was informal within his church and neighborhood, ranging from his work with St. John’s Breadline, St. Patrick’s Fish Fry and being Santa Clause for the elderly every Christmas to mowing neighbor’s lawns and providing endless care for a disabled childhood friend. He was deeply devoted to all of God’s creatures, taking in many homeless cats and dogs as well as several orphaned pets of his late beloved friend, Vicky. He loved cooking, sharing recipes and feeding others. His most endearing trait was his signature laugh, as unique as Greg himself, perhaps his way for us to remember all the joy he brought to this world.
