Gerald E. Sperry, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away January 9, 2024. Visitation: 9-11 AM, Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Funeral Service: 11 AM Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gerald was born on June 12, 1927, in Dawn, MO, the eldest son of Glen E. and Charlotte (Powell) Sperry. He grew up in and around the Williamsburg and Marengo, IA area. Gerald served his country in the United States Army in World War II being stationed in Korea. He was united in marriage to Ella M. Fuller on December 19, 1952, in Marengo, IA and the two moved to Cedar Rapids to create their home and family. Gerald worked in several capacities at Iowa Steel & Iron Works in Cedar Rapids, where his final and favorite job was site electrician. Gerald retired from Iowa Steel in 1984 and he and Ella began their retirement years as they spent countless hours loving their grandchildren, helping their adult children with household projects and making annual winter treks to Laughlin, NV and Bullhead City, AZ where they enjoyed the sunshine and the ability to enjoy being outside in the warm weather.

Left to honor his memory are two children – Mary Kay (Duane) Bolger of Williamsburg, IA and Robert (Lisa) Sperry of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren – Matthew (Holly) Bolger of Tipton, IA; Michael Bolger of Cedar Rapids; Darren (Megan) Bolger of South Lyon, MI and Trey Williams of Vonore, TN; six great grandchildren; brothers John (Jan) Sperry of Cedar Rapids and Dale (Ginny) Sperry of Marengo, IA.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Ella in 2018, brothers Howard Joe and Willard Sperry, and sister Thelma Filling.

Memorials may be given to The Glen and Charlotte Sperry Memorial Scholarship Fund administered through the First Presbyterian Church of Marengo, IA.
