George M. Karam, 74, of Ely, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 5, 1949, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Karam G. and Syriano Karam, George lived a life full of love, dedication, adventure, and an unwavering faith in Christ.
George’s career was marked by his commitment to education. He worked for the Lisbon Community School District from 1973 to 2005, starting as a history teacher and later serving as a K-8 administrator. His passion for teaching and his dedication to his students left a lasting impact on the community.
An avid sportsman, George loved trout fishing and hunting, creating countless cherished memories in the great outdoors with his two sons, friends, and family. His love for nature was only surpassed by his love for his family. George treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Susan, his sons, Christian (Stacy) Karam and Matthew (Chenelle) Karam; and his adored grandchildren, David, Charlie, Mason, Eva, and Hudson. He also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Syriano Haddy, and his brother, John Haddy.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2024, followed by a Trisiagion Service at St. George Orthodox Christian Church, 3650 Cottage Grove Ave. SE. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the same location. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. George Orthodox Christian Church.
