Gary Wayne Tarver

Gary Wayne Tarver

Gary Wayne Tarver died on May 15, 2021 in his home in Granbury at the age of 67. He was born in Cleburne, Texas on April 22,1954.

Gary had a passion for cars. He turned this passion into a career, working for General Motors, while also owning and operating a vintage restoration body shop with his brother.

A very creative and fiery soul, he always had a smile to offer and a laugh that would fill up a room. This energy and spirit will never be forgotten.

His life was rich, spending time with his kids, grandkids, friends, and his beloved dog Brutus. You could often find Gary fishing, watching old westerns, barbecuing, talking about old cars and enjoying nature—outdoors near a river. He especially loved visiting “Big Rock” in Glen Rose and spent many happy family vacations admiring the natural beauty. His service will be a stone’s throw from this place that brought him so much joy.

As generous as he was kind, Gary was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends or even strangers—it was just in his nature to give. He will be greatly missed.

Gary is survived by his daughter Melody, daughter Shelly and son-in-law Floyd, his son Aaron and daughter-in-law Allison, his brother Tommy and sister-in-law Vicky, his grandchildren Abby, Liza Grace, Eli and Lucy, his dog Brutus, his grand doggies Jak, Prince, Darby, Maggie, Daisy and Major. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, mother Anita, father C. A., sister Pam and brother-in-law Roger. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Dallas 24 Hour Club (dallas 24 hour club.org) or Operation Kindness (operationkindness.org).

Gary’s memorial service will be held at Chapel in the Woods in Glen Rose (420 Grand Avenue) on Sunday, June 13 at 2pm. The chapel is situated on the Country Woods Inn property.
