Gary Allen Amato

Gary Allen Amato, 82, of Hendersonville, passed away on April 9, 2021, at Pardee Hospital after a brief illness.

Gary was born in Cleveland, Ohio.  He served in the Army’s foodservice before joining the Air Force where he served as station manager for the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service in Turkey.  After twelve years of active duty, he was assigned to the Public Affairs Office at Youngstown Air Base for his seventeen years of reserve duty.

Gary began his 28 years with UPS as a package driver before becoming an executive account manager.  His ability to speak German fluently led to his being asked to establish UPS operations in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth Connors Amato and Joseph Amato of Euclid, Ohio; brother Jack Dawes of Hudson, Ohio; twin brothers David and Dennis Amato of Ohio; and son-in-law Otto Weber of Germany.

Gary is survived by his wife Vickie McCall Amato; his daughter Carmen Weber of Germany; his son Gary Jack Amato (Claudia Seuss) of Germany; his son Joe Amato (Denise Fields) of Indianapolis; his daughter Holly Wetzel (Bob Wetzel) of Illinois; his grandson Jon Amato (Cassy Thompson) of Indianapolis; his granddaughter Natalie Amato of Germany; his grandson Hans Weber of Germany; his grandson Zack Amato of Indianapolis; his granddaughter Silvana Amato of Germany; his great-grandchildren Arie, Hudson, and Stevie Pearl Amato, all of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gary’s passions were his family, friends, the military, travel, cars, motorcycles, jazz music, and the Triune God.

A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, April 13, at 6:00 p.m., at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, 2606 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792, where Gary was a member.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. at the church.  A reception will follow.
