Maysville, Mo….Galen Ivel Castor, 85, of Maysville, died peacefully April 11, 2024, surrounded by family who loved him dearly.

He was born in Fairport to the late Ivel and Sarah (Sherard) Castor, who preceded him in death. He was one of eight children born to the couple.

On December 23, 1958, he married Barbara Sue (Ruble) in the living room of their current home in Maysville.

Castor was a graduate of Maysville High School. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Jim, Stuart and Everett Castor, and sisters Jean Jones and Joan Jones, and son-in-law Rick Camden.

He is survived by: his son Gary (Debbie) Castor, of Jefferson City; his daughter Diana (Rick) Camden, of Wildwood; a brother Terry (Patricia) Castor, of St. Joseph; a sister Ruth (Bud) Nalley, of Ava; three grandchildren, Sarah (Jessie) Garrett, Garrison (Alexandria) Castor and Jacob Camden; and one great-grandchild, Lucille Castor.

Castor spent the bulk of his professional career as a carpenter in the Maysville area, building and remodeling homes throughout the area. For nearly 20 years, he had a farm in the Fairport area and was quite active in the Fairport School district, serving as a school board member for many years. He and Sue purchased his parents’ home in Maysville after his mother’s death, and he transformed the home into a showplace that became renowned for the elaborate Christmas displays he erected annually for passerby’s to enjoy.

Throughout his time living in Maysville, he lived a humble life of service to the community.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Turner Family Funeral Home of Maysville with Visitation one hour prior to funeral services.  Inurnment will follow Funeral Services at Fairport Cemetery.  Memorial Contributions:  Fairport Cemetery.  Online Condolences:  Turner Family Funeral Home
