Frederick D. Sutton, Sr.

Frederick D. Sutton, Sr.

Deacon Frederick D. Sutton, Sr. was born January 16, 1936, in Weirton, West Virginia, to the late Ida Mae Sutton. He went home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2023, surrounded by daughter Cynthia Chetham and caregiver Mark Dingle.

Deacon Frederick Sutton was a proud member of The House of The Lord, later attending the City of Joy.

Fred, as he was typically called, retired from General Tire Rubber Company. He was a self-driven man, an entrepreneur as one would say. Following his retirement, he and a friend founded The Dickerson and Sutton Construction Company. Later, he created a lawn maintenance service and marketed Bees Wax products.

Fred and his wife, Joanne, loved to travel and meet new acquaintances; he was an honorary member of The Cidell’s Travel Club. In all of their worldwide travels, Fred never met a stranger; he loved to talk, talk, talk.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Sutton; wife Joanne Sutton; sisters Eleanor Wiggins-Sutton and Barbara Jean Sims.

He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish precious memories, son Frederick (Shondra) Sutton Jr.; daughters Cynthia Chetham of Akron, OH, Carmen Taylor of Hampton, VA, and Kimberly (Wade) Stone of Akron OH.; brother Melvin Sutton of Newport News, VA; grandchildren, Brian (Deana) Martin, Shawndell Martin, Andre Stone, Kenyetta Martin, Francis Sutton, Creneace Taylor, Jasmine Vanterpool, Chareese Stone, and Alexis Taylor; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, relatives, and friends to cherish his memory.
